"City of Light" Mixed Media $375.00
Finally, have time to keep this dialog going. This is one of my favorites of my new pieces. "City of Light" is special in that it looks like it could be in someplace like Chicago but it is really in my world of the Language of Light. It is make up of circles, squares, rectangles, and triangles. The sky is green to represent non reality. This was a really fun piece for me because it returned me to my childhood love of drawing buildings and skyscrapers. I used to draw buildings for hours as a kid and teenager. What is special about this piece also is it is made of three medias, oil paint, acrylic, and oil paint pen. I did NOT use any rulers so it was an excercise in seeing how steady I could hold my hand, that is where my personal skill comes in. Most worked very well with the paint pen, but a few lines, well I am only human. It was inspired by a song from Snow Patrol called "Hands Open". They have a line "when Chicago bursts to life!" and I remembered living there for the summer of 1997 and how that is true and tried to capture my own feelings of Chicago through this piece.
