" Morning in Cydonia " 12"x16" Limited edition prints for sale $100.00
Made a painting for my favorite band of the last 2 years, MUSE. They came to play in Columbus on 9/11 which is also my birthday. I made the painting for 2 days before they arrived, didn't have work so it was time to give.
The show was amazing! It was the best concert I have been to since the early 1990's as far as energy levels. I felt like I was on an express elevator to the stars or heavens, with no brakes and a fabulous crash landing with a bunch of sweaty 20 somethings. People were smiling and dancing so much that my feet didn't really touch the floor for the 1st half of the show. I couldn't believe it. Must have looked like a soccer match in the U.K. when they score! That mix of rock and techno with the light show was disorientating. I didn't know where I was and didn't care either. It was so fantastic to break free of all this U.S. control lately.
The story of the painting goes as such. People were not kind on the floor when I tried to get the painting to the stage. The women were nasty and hoping to get on the band? One guy got racial with me, the fashionistas weren't having someone break through their fascade to get to the barricade. But that is Columbus sometimes, if you aren't American looking, they'll try and stop you, whatever American means? Once the show started and there was a lull in "Knights of Cydonia" their opening song. I made a rush for it and tossed the painting onto the stage. Even security didn't want me to give, and waved their finger at me. Then they grabbed it immediately of course. Heard the crowd isn't allowed to have contact with the bands anymore in this new state of security. Even Tommy Lee got told to put his shirt back on at a recent concert here in the C.O. But Art isn't about control, it is about coming together and the show brought everyone together in a series of waves and crashes.
When the show ended with "Take a Bow" in this electronic rock reduction to ashes and rubble, I got my painting back from security because they weren't taking it to the band. I was told "MUSE" would sign autographs out back sometime. So my buddy Charlie and I went out to find them. It took an hour but I was determined and got past the teenagers to the drummer to hand him my piece. A gift from Columbus and myself for playing here. He was very thankful and down to earth. He wished me "Happy Birfday" and signed my ticket after I told him about the painting. He even got that I painted the band in as the astronauts. So cool! I couldn't have had a better moment in my life. Giving my Art and Language of Light to MUSE. The piece is a CD single album cover for "Knights of Cydonia" in Joshua 2006 style! Then the tour manager took it back to the tour bus with them after their five minute signing was over. Whew...perserverance pays off Artists!
Much Light,
